Access to our community is easy and a straight shot from the heart of downtown Dallas on Interstate 30. Although the City of Rockwall is the largest city in Rockwall County, we have other towns that are only a few miles away that make up the entire “Rockwall Area”. Fate, McLendon Chisholm, Royse City and Heath have their own charm and style and offer many different housing choices. Rockwall County is the fastest growing county in Texas and the fifth fastest growing county in the United States. Rockwall has the feel and charm of a small town with the amenities of a larger city. The natural break that the lake gives to the rest of the DFW metroplex, sets the stage for terrific views and beautiful rolling hills. The recent Harbor Development houses The Hilton Bella Harbor, a resort style property with beautiful views, lake access and a large conference center. The rest of the Harbor is a mixture of specialty retail stores, restaurants, a movie theater, a public park area with walkways and boardwalks along the water, including a jetty that has public access with a lighthouse! Boat docks are available for our boating visitors to use while dining or shopping at The Harbor.
From the Harbor, drive north on Ridge Road and you will pass many other restaurants and businesses, as well as The Commons, a mixed use development consisting of apartments, offices and retail space, with the greatest high level lake views in the area. Another mile north on Ridge Rd., which merges with Goliad, will take you directly into Rockwall’s historic downtown area, with a collection of specialty retail shops and fine dining, as well as a gourmet deli and market with fresh produce and other food items. If you continue north, there are numerous subdivisions on the lake and many have great lake and water views. The Shores Country Club offers many activities including golf and tennis and has many lovely homes in the area.
If you decide to go south from the Harbor, then you will travel by more retail stores and businesses and view another lakeside development and marina, Chandlers Landing, which harbors many luxury motor and sail boats. Shortly thereafter, you will enter the City of Heath, which has many high end housing developments with spectacular lake views. Additionally, Heath is home to the renowned Buffalo Creek Golf Club and subdivision that is absolutely breathtaking! Heath also offers many areas that have multiple acreage lots which can accommodate horses and barns, as well as another sailing club/marina, Rush Creek Yacht Club.
Due east of The Harbor along Interstate 30, are several retail centers that have many large national chain stores that can take care of just about any of your shopping needs! A Costco is under construction in that same area and there are several auto dealerships on both sides of the interstate.
That is just a summary of the physical picture of our area, but the real prize is the sense of community that is displayed every day in our town! Citizens pull together for major issues and the heart and charitable nature of the people is fabulous. Many organizations hold fund raisers and activities to assist those in need and to give money to local high school seniors for college scholarships, which brings me to another prize of the community, the Rockwall Independent School District. We are very proud to have such a great district with great administrative leadership that continues to plan for the future. I encourage you to visit the district website at www.rockwallisd.org to learn more about the RISD.
The YMCA is very large and very active and offers numerous programs for youth and adults as well as the parks and recreation department of The City of Rockwall. Founders Day is held on the historic square each spring and features well known bands and a variety of vendors. We have a “Concert by the Lake” series through spring and summer each Thursday night at the Harbor Amphitheater, featuring live music. The Chamber hosts a fall event, “Rockin’ On The Docks”, an all day event held on a Saturday with live music and great food and activities. A 40 foot catamaran named the “Seawolf” is available for lake cruises complete with a captain and crew, along with food and drinks. The Aspasians Arts and Crafts show is held twice a year in September and April and has been going strong for over 30 years with profits going to scholarships for local high school seniors. It features food and craft vendors and is enjoyed by all as a great outdoor event and family day!
